Episode 218: From Quitter To Finisher with Childrenā€™s Book Author, Cindy Williams Schrauben

career mindset Apr 24, 2022

This weekā€™s guest is Cindy Williams Schrauben. Cindy lives in Michigan where she writes books for kids that range from the truly serious to the seriously silly. Her debut picture book,Ā This Could Be YouĀ was released on April 1, 2022.

Becoming a published author at 63 has inspired Cindy to empower other mature adults with the mindset that it is never too late to dream. When not writing or connecting with other authors, Cindy might be found dissecting her grandsonsā€™ shenanigans for story ideas, reading on the floor in the bookstore, or eating ice creamā€¦ ideally all at once.

In this episode, Cindy and I talk about:

  • how she became a childrenā€™s author
  • her book writing journey - from start to finish
  • the fear of failure that hindered her from pursuing writing for far too longĀ
  • how her life has changed now that sheā€™s doing what she loves

Cindy admits sheā€™s NOT always been one to persevere ā€“ in fact, when she was younger she often would quit when things got difficult. But sheā€™s li...

Episode 217: The Lessons From Shoulding All Over Ourselves

lessons learned series Apr 21, 2022

This is a twofer episode because I'm sharing TWO Lessons Learned instead of just one!

The first is a lesson I learned earlier this week from renting an Airbnb "apartment" that turned out to be not what I expected... I decided to add it to this episode at the last minute, while it was fresh in my mind, because it's a great lesson in paying more attention to detail and I thought it may be helpful to someone who is planning an upcoming trip!

The second lesson learned is the one I planned to do, which is an exercise I did at a recent business retreat. It's a bit of a follow up to the one I did last week so if you missed my episode on the Inner Critic,Ā check it out here.

Make sure you actually DO the exercise and don't think just by listening to it, that suffices as doing it! Unlike most episodes, this one requires extra EFFORT! ;) I promise that going through the process as I describe is super effective.

What came up for you? How do these statements tie back to the Inner Critic exer...

Episode 215: The Lessons From My Inner Critic

lessons learned series Apr 14, 2022

I'm excited to bring you my FIRST "Lessons Learned" episode of this new annual series! I'll be sharing one of these episodes every Friday, with the exception of the first Friday of the month, which is when I'll be airing my "Just Friggin' Do It" monthly episodes.Ā

In these "Lessons Learned" episodes, I'll be sharing something I have recently learned that I believe will provide you with new insight or a learning opportunity, maybe with an exercise - like this episode - or simply inspire you to look at something that has happened, maybe a mistake, as a great lesson.

In today's episode, I share an exercise that I did at a recent business retreat that focused on mindset. The exercise is a great way to uncover those unhelpful messages from the "Inner Critic" who unfortunately resides in all of us and controls a lot of our thoughts and decisions, keeping so many of us from achieving our full potential.

Listen in and do the exercise to discover how to catch those negative messages and t...

Episode 213: [JFDI #1] Turning ā€œToo Complicatedā€ into ā€œSo Much Funā€

Even though this episode may be about a topic you have no interest in, think about how it may apply in other areas of your life where you are resisting doing something that keeps coming up, either from conversations youā€™re having or internal thoughts that keep arising.Ā

Often resistance is just our ego pushing something away because that thing is outside of our comfort zone. Pay attention to the resistance. Itā€™s often fear in disguise. And once you overcome the resistance, magic happens.

Iā€™m having SO.MUCH.FUN doing Reels. Check them out if youā€™re on Instagram and let me know what you think! Itā€™s so crazy how I used to think how uncreative I was, and now, Iā€™m having such a blast thinking up ideas for funny videos that I hope people make people smile, as well as stop and think!

What have you been resisting? Is it Reels? Or is it some other kind of technology?

What is it that you are making up silly stories about in your head, like I did, that really arenā€™t true? The truth is that...

Episode 212: [NEW SERIES] Just Frigginā€™ Do It!

Weā€™re moving from activating ABUNDANCE, the series on which Iā€™ve done 52 episodes over the past 12 months, and into ACTION, my new series where Iā€™ll be talking about things that Iā€™ve been thinking about doing that Iā€™ve procrastinated on OR that keep coming up in my thoughts that Iā€™ve been avoiding because Iā€™m too scared, too complacent, or too much listening to my logical brain (or all of the above!)

With this series, Iā€™ll be sharing ONE ACTION PER MONTH for the next 12 months that I finally just frigginā€™ did! You are my witness. And by sharing these actions openly, it will not only push me to do the things that have been just thoughts for far too long (and I know will be great for my soul), it will serve as an example to you that you too can do scary, hard, and maybe-a-little-crazy things.

Iā€™d love for you to play along with me and commit to doing TWELVE NEW THINGS over the next year because what youā€™ll discover is once you do them, youā€™ll discover new things about yourself and, ...

Episode 210: Activating Abundance (#52) By Being In Integrity After A Mistake Is Made

Today's topic was inspired by two things... First, by my conversation with Debbie Colbourn, who I interviewed on my last episode (EP 209). And second, by a topic that was discussed at my business retreat this past week.

It never ceases to amaze me how the universe delivers a message to me that is perfectly aligned with a subject I was going to talk about and how the context in which it's provided always seems to add value to that message.

I love this energetic back and forth with a power that is much greater than me - a power I used to be so oblivious of but now pay extra attention to. Even though I now have an awareness of it, I am still amazed when I see the ways in which it helps me be a better vessel. And as more messages come, I gain more faith and confidence in its guidance.

I know that the honest conversation I had with Debbie and the topic of integrity at my retreat happened the same week for a reason. More aha moments for me! More teaching moments for my podcast listener...
